The Financial Aid Process

To apply for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is available from your local high school, community college, or area university. There are several ways to complete the FAFSA:

1. Online at

2. Bring in your (and your parent(s)' if required) 2015 Federal Tax Transcript into any SVCC Financial Aid Office. The office staff will assist you in completing the form on-line.  Please also bring in your FSAID.

When you are filling out the FAFSA, please be sure to add the Southside Virginia Community College school code (008661) so we may access your information.

After we have processed your initial application, there may be more information that we need in order to award you financial aid. We send out communications by postal mail and e-mail.

If your application is selected for Verification by the federal processing center, you must provide a copy of your IRS Return Transcripts and the verification worksheet. In order to obtain a copy of your return transcripts, you must request it from the IRS online or by phone at 1-800-908-9946. It takes 5-10 days to receive the transcripts through the mail. Once you receive them, please turn them in to our office. We accept them by postal mail, e-mail, or fax. The verification worksheet can be found in the "Forms" section of this web page.

You may check the status of your financial aid application by signing on to Student Information System (SIS). You can log-in to SIS by going to MySVCC
