SVCC Improves to 6-2

The Southside Virginia College men’s basketball team improved to 6-2 on the season with an 86-64 win over Unique Prep on Saturday afternoon in Lawrenceville. The local team got off to a great start as Joseph Jiggetts and DeAndre Miles hit back to back treys to open the game. A runner by Miles, two free-throws by Jiggetts, and a bucket by Isaiah Thompson increased the lead to 12-1 at the 17:11 mark of the first half. The local team continued to pour it on as a bucket by Miles and a big dunk by Marquise Petty extended the lead to 28-12 at the 7:58 mark.

Back to back treys from Glenn Hawkins and Aaron Logan gave SVCC a 42-25 lead and the Panthers took a 44-30 lead to the halftime break.The local team picked up where they left off in the second half as a dunk by Miles and 10 straight points by Thompson gave SVCC a 60-36 lead at the 14:55 mark. A big dunk by Nile Atwater and a putback by Lanthony Joyner extended the lead to 70-38 at the 12:23 mark as SVCC cruised down the stretch to the victory.

Thompson led SVCC with 22 points and two assists while Miles added 17 points and seven rebounds. Logan finished with 13 points and eight rebounds in the victory while Atwater added 10 points and six rebounds.
