Career Readiness Certificate

During the Spring 2006 Graduate Assessment Testing period those students who were graduating from Southside Virginia Community College with either a Certificate or a Diploma were given a test in the following three Work Keys Skill Areas: Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information.

There were a total of 25 students tested – 7 on the Christanna Campus and 18 on the Daniel Campus.  All but 7 or 8 students graduating with a Certificate or a Diploma were assessed.

Of the 25 students assessed 22 (88%) received a Career Readiness Certificate in either Gold (2 or 8%), Silver (12 or 48%), or Bronze (8 or 32%).

Table 1 provides a summary of the results by campus.

The average scores for each skill area for the college are listed in Table 3.  Reading for Information   had an average score of 4.68, Applied Mathematics had an average score of 3.7, and Locating Information had an average score of 3.56.  Also found in Table 3 is a comparison between campuses of the average scores in each of the three areas.
