At the Southside Virginia Community College Automotive Technology Department, we can put you on the road towards a career as an automotive mechanic/technician. Students enrolled in this program spend approximately 75% of their time doing hands-on work and 25% of their time learning automotive theory and its practical application.
Employment in the automotive industry includes automotive dealerships, independent garages, fleet shops, service stations and specialty shops.
All automotive students are required to furnish a personal set of hand tools. All automotive students will be required to furnish their own pair of OSHA approved safety glasses. Any student without safety glasses WILL NOT be allowed to participate in lab projects. Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the lab. The required text books can be purchased at the campus bookstore.
