Pre-Engineering Academy

APre-Engineering Program Agreement

The Pre-Engineering curriculum, offered at the Nottoway Vocational Center, is not designed to culminate in an Associate's degree at SVCC. Whether a student is able to earn this degree depends on what other college or Dual Enrollment courses are taken elsewhere. These additional courses may be taken at the home high school, over the internet, or at other sites throughout the course of two years, including summers. The attached table indicates what is required to earn SVCC's General Studies transfer degree (column one); what courses are offered in the Pre-Engineering program (column two) and what courses remain to be taken elsewhere (column three). Note that it is possible to apply courses taken at other colleges toward the degree, if the course has been approved by SVCC and the college receives an official transcript. Note, too, that the SVCC graduation occurs in mid-May and that Dual Enrollment classes may not be complete at that time.

The Amount of work required in the Pre-Engineering courses may be more than is customary in high school or other Dual Enrollment courses. In particular, students will be expected to devote a substantial amount of time to homework outside the classroom.

Students are expected to enroll in, and remain enrolled in, all the courses in the program.

Because of the amount of work required, students are advised not to take more college courses than they might reasonably expect to complete successfully. Likewise, they should be mindful of the number of extra-curricular activities they engage in.

The Pre-Engineering program has its own academic calendar which may differ in some respects from that of the home schools. Students are expected to attend every day that instruction is scheduled, even when there may be activities at the home school and even when the home school may not be in session.

While at the Nottoway site, students are expected to behave in a mature and responsible manner. They should follow the directions of their instructors and the administrators of the site.
