We visit with Lisa Back, an Assistant Professor of Biology at Southside Virginia Community College.

 

How long have you worked at SVCC? 

Seventeen years

Name one thing on your bucket list.

I want to tour the western part of the United States.

Who was your favorite teacher?

I had several! : Cox, who taught Literature Randolph Henry High School; Cristo, who taught Anthropology at Longwood University; West, who taught Psychology at Lynchburg College; and Mathews, who taught Oceanography at Old Dominion University.

What did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to work in a medical field.

What was your first job?

Medical Technologist at University of Virginia

Of what achievement are you most proud?

Parenting

If you could have lunch with one person, dead or alive, who would it be? What would you eat?

 I would have Fig Newtons and Sundrops with my mother.

What is the best book you ever read?

There are too many wonderful books to name just one:  Shogun, King Rat, Shibumi, Thorn Birds, and anything written by Bill Bryson.
