Shantel Epps, born in New York City, began her journey at Southside Virginia Community College by earning her GED. She continued at SVCC, completing an Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in General Studies/Human Services. While at SVCC, she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa (an honors society) and served as Vice President of the Empowered Women Club.
After completing her SVCC studies, Shantel transferred to Liberty University in Lynchburg, from where she earned her Masters Degree.
When asked about her experience at SVCC, Shantel shared remembrances of numerous faculty and staff who encouraged and inspired her along her educational journey. Among them was English Instructor Shanley Dorin, of whom she said, "She was there when I struggled and never turned me away no matter how many times I was in her office. This showed me that she cared about me as a student and she loved to see students succeed."
Shantel lives in Warfield, VA and is an Intensive In-Home Counselor at Turning Point Youth and Family Services in Lawrenceville.
