Caleb Thomas, originally from South Hill, Virginia, was enrolled in Southside Virginia Community College's Associate of Arts and Science in General Studies in preparation for transfer to a four-year university.
Caleb graduated from Park View High School and enrolled in SVCC as a part of the CARES (Children Are Really Extra Special) program. The CARES program, spearheaded by Jean Clary Bagley and the team of Century 21 Clary & Associates, assured Caleb and his classmates in the PVHS Class of 2008, a year at SVCC at no tuition cost.
After graduating from SVCC, Caleb transferred to Radford University and earned his Bachelor's degree in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. He is currently working towards earning his MBA from Liberty University.
Caleb owes all of his success to the guidance he received from his teachers and the staff at SVCC. "I owe a great deal of gratitude to Dr. John Hicks. He helped me see my potential and caused me to buckle down and focus on the end goal of graduating from a four-year university. Attending SVCC was one of the greatest decisions I have made. The community they have welcomes you as soon as you walk in the door." Outside of SVCC, Caleb had pressure from his grandmother who returned to college to earn her degree. "There was no room to slack off or make excuses. If my grandmother could go back to school in her sixties, I could do it in my twenties."
