Kendele Reamey, from Chase City, graduated from Park View High School and Governor's School through Southside Virginia Community College's dual enrollment. Kendele is continuing her education at James Madison University, majoring in Communication Studies with a General Studies concentration. While at James Madison, she returned to SVCC to intern in the Marketing and Public Relations office. Through the summer internship, Kendele gained hands-on experience in the public relations field writing press releases and articles and assisting with campus events. She continues to return to SVCC on her holiday breaks from school to volunteer in the Marketing and Public Relations office.
In June 2015, Kendele had the opportunity to study abroad in Ireland, through the JMU Communication, Conflict, and Culture Program. She spent two weeks traveling through Derry, Belfast and Dublin, learning about the culture as well as the community development process that has taken shape after the country's turbulent years from the 1960's to 1980's. Although overwhelming at first, Kendele feels it was an amazing trip and hopes to travel more in the future.
"I don't think that I would have been able to have half the opportunities that I've had at JMU, if I hadn't been through SVCC. Southside and Governor's School definitely laid the groundwork for my educational path. If I hadn't had my Associate Degree, I would still be trying to finish General Education classes, and probably would not have had the chance to study abroad".
