Student Achievement Research and Goals

Southside Virginia Community College is required to provide students, constituents, and the public with information about student achievement goals and success of students in achieving those goals.  SVCC's measures for student achievement are provided below.  These measures are drawn from SVCC's Aspire 2027: Pathways to Opportunities Strategic Plan, and SVCC's mission.

  • Key Student Completion Indicator

In 2018, in response to the SACSCOC initiative to monitor and support student completion, SVCC selected National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) data. NSC data includes part-time and dual enrollment students. Therefore, it most accurately represents the completion rate of the SVCC student population. This study allowed the College to identify their preferred completion rate and compare it against the average completion rate for peer SACSCOC two-year institutions. SVCC's graduation rate was 52.8% based on the NSC Completion Rate. We use all of the criteria defined to impact the Completion Rate Numbers.

    Postsecondary Data Partnership

SVCC is now part of the Postsecondary Data Partnership and is in the process of sending data to establish dashboards to monitor student progression in more detail effectively.

Threshold of Acceptability: SVCC’s current minimum threshold of acceptability for enrollment, retention, progress, and credential completion and transfer measures is the SVCC baseline data determined in 2015 and used as a benchmark for VCCS performance-based funding measures. SVCC evaluates these measures of student achievement against the 2015 baseline and either the College's previous year's achievement outcomes or the average performance of the 23 VCCS Institutions.
