Shanetta Beck has a cool job because she is doing what she loves to do. Beck is owner of her own business, Baskets by Occasion. She started this as a cottage industry on a part time basis and now has transformed her hobby into a prosperous business.

The Southside Virginia Community College Welding Lab, located at the Southside Virginia Education Center in Greensville County, was officially opened March 14, 2017 with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony and open house.
Welding impacts virtually every industry and students using this new lab will have the opportunity to pursue high paying welding careers in a wide range of areas. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), welding is a solid career in addition to a growing field. The BLS estimates there will be a need for 14,400 more welders by the year 2024.
A lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, Virginia, Michelle Clary graduated high school from Brunswick Academy. She furthered her education at Southside Virginia Community College, earning an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management.
Michelle is Office Manager at Remac, Inc. and is approaching her 10year work anniversary with the company. Her professional goals include assisting Remac in growing and expanding its business and she hopes to one day be able to say she worked for Remac, Inc. for 35+ years.
A home-school graduate, Katie Davis was raised in Lawrenceville, Virginia. After completing high school one year early, she attended Southside Virginia Community College and earned her Associate of Applied Science in Business Management.
A Greensville County native, Natasha Jones graduated from Greensville County High School. She earned an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing through a consortium agreement between J. Sergeant Reynolds and Southside Virginia Community Colleges.
John Seaborne, from Emporia and a Greensville County High School graduate, earned his Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies/Human Services from Southside Virginia Community College, as well as a certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling.
A Farmville, Virginia native, Tommy Trevilian graduated high school from New Life Christian Academy. He earned an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology through a consortium agreement between Central Virginia and Southside Virginia Community Colleges.
N MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Southside Virginia Community College basketball team captured the USA National Prep Postgrad championship for the third straight year with a 70-56 victory over Forest Trails on Saturday evening to complete a 5-0 run through the 32-team field. The five victories ran the local team’s winning streak to 11 games and completed SVCC’s campaign with a 17-9 record after a 0-7 start.
“I am just at a loss for words,” said SVCC coach Dennis Smith. “Coach (Vincent) Brown and I are just elated for our young men who went 17-2 during the second half of the season. The team was nothing short of sensational in our five games at the national tourney and we could not be prouder of their play.”
It's not to late to "start something. SVCC's "Second Eight Week" session runs March 13th through May 5th.
