Torreyson is a good example of Lifelong Learning
By Krystal Pollock
Sherrie Torreyson found success through Southside Virginia Community College’s Middle College-Brunswick Literacy Program. Torreyson admitted she did not pass all parts of the GED on her first try, failing Math, but has a sense of accomplishment after receiving her GED in September 2008.
Torreyson, age 30,Is a good example of Governor Tim Kaine’s proclamation of May 16 through May 22, 2009 being proclaimed as Lifelong Learning Week. She is married and has three children. She is the youngest of five siblings and has had one sister and a nephew to receive their GED from Dinwiddie County.
Torreyson was a high school dropout, quitting Amelia High in the eleventh grade. She now plans on coming to SVCC to pursue a computer certificate and work towards a computer degree.
Torreyson emphasizes you have to have goals in life to succeed and with goals you can accomplish anything. Sherry stated she would recommend this program to others and would let everyone know you have a sense of achievement after finishing the program. Torreyson liked this program because it was very educational and she was able to see where her weaknesses were and was able to improve on those weaknesses. She worked with Mrs. Buffy Allgood with the Middle College Program and Ms. Trudy Bent with the Brunswick Literacy Program.
