The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team improved to 12-6 on the season with a 112-86 win over SW Prep on Sunday afternoon.
The local team got off to a great start taking a 9-4 lead on a driving layup by Marcus Hoosier at the 13:57 mark of the first half.
Buckets by brothers Edmund and Donald Maxwell extended the SVCC lead to 21-13 at the 9:59 mark.
A breakaway dunk by E. Maxwell at the 5:26 mark gave SVCC a 33-15 lead and the local team took a 48-23 lead to the halftime break on a tip-in at the buzzer by Tevin Holloway.
Back-to-back treys by Anthony Harris and Holloway gave SVCC a 68-39 lead at the 13:09 mark of the second half and the local team cruised to the victory.
Hoosier led SVCC with 30 points on the day and added eight rebounds and six assists while
Harris scored a season-high 24 points, connecting on six treys in the second half.
Edmund Maxwell finished with 17 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds while Holloway connected on four treys and scored 16.
Donald Maxwell scored 12 points while Reggie Dennis added eight rebounds and four steals and Taron Burgess tallied eight rebounds.
SVCC will return home on Sunday for VCCS contest against Thomas Nelson CC that will tip off at 3 p.m. at Brunswick HS.
