SVCC Hammers MACU, 76-46

The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team played one of its best defensive games to date, topping Mid-Atlantic Christian University from Elizabeth City, NC, 76-46 on Saturday afternoon.

Tevin Holloway tallied 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in SVCC’s 76-46 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Saturday afternoon to help the local team improve to 12-7 on the season.

The Mustangs came into the game riding a four-game winning streak including a victory over Pitt CC, the only team to beat NJCAA D2 top-ranked Richard Bland College this season.

The win for SVCC was its third straight and improved the two-time defending VCCS state champions to 12-7 on the season.

MACU jumped out to an 11-5 lead early but SVCC’s Rashaun Alexander knocked down two free-throws and Tevin Holloway hit a deep trey to cut the lead to 11-10 at the 15:14 mark.

A big dunk on a steal by Marcus Hoosier knotted the score at 12 at the 11:56 mark.

A trey by Holloway at the 9:28 mark gave SVCC a 20-17 lead and back-to-back dunks by Dontae Tucker and Khari Jenkins gave SVCC a 29-19 lead.

Hoosier hit a long trey right before the buzzer to give SVCC a 35-24 lead at the halftime break.

A trey by Alexander and buckets by Hoosier and DJ Haywood extended the SVCC lead to 54-34 at the 12:08 mark of the second half.

Two straight buckets by Devonte Saunders extended the SVCC lead to 62-38 with 6:15 left to play as SVCC cruised to the victory.

Hoosier led SVCC with 16 points and eight rebounds while Holloway added 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Saunders added 11 points and nine rebounds while Jenkins finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

SVCC will return home on Sunday to play the Lynchburg College JV team at Brunswick HS in Lawrenceville at 2:00 p.m.
