From Charlotte County, Aliyyah Westry graduated from Southside Virginia Community College in May 2015, earning her Associate of Arts and Sciences in science. During her tenure at SVCC, she was a Student Ambassador, a member of the Campus Activities Team, a student work-study and served as vice-president of the Minority Awareness Programming Club. It is through such involvement that she attributes the development of leadership and communication skills that she will draw upon for her ongoing educational and career goals.
In describing her decision to attend SVCC, Aliyyah depicts the college as a tight-knit community. “I always had someone looking out for my best interest. Whether it was my advisor, a professor, a counselor, or even my work-study supervisor, it was nice to have so many people invest in my academic progress.
In her goal to become a pediatric cardiologist, Aliyyah is transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in biology, with a minor in psychology.
