SVCC Chorus Presents Cantata

The Southside Virginia Community College Chorus will present the Lenten Cantata Out of the Shadows by John Purifoy, Palm Sunday, April 5, 2009, at 7:00 PM at the South Hill Presbyterian Church. The Chorus is under the direction of Mrs. Judith Kemp and accompanied by Mrs. Sally Tharrington. Narrators are Rev. Sandi Libhart, pastor of South Hill Presbyterian Church, and Mr. Frank Malone, Executive Director of the South Hill Chamber of Commerce and Worship Leader at South Hill Christian Church. Guest performers for the evening are the BJ’S Quartet and Mrs. Terry Self, soloist.

In describing this cantata the publisher, Lorenz Publishing Company, writes, “ The agony and angst of the stirring events of Holy Week textually and musically evolve into the jubilant celebration of the risen Christ in this moving portrayal of the most significant event in all Christendom. The remarkable beauty and sensitivity of John Purifoy’s music deftly captures the extreme pathos contained in the story’s darkest shadows as well as the exhilarating excitement created by the risen Christ.”

Director Kemp and the entire Chorus extend a cordial invitation to the entire community for this inspirational presentation. Admission is free.
