SVCC IMPROVES TO 7 AND 3
The Southside Virginia Community College men’s intercollegiate basketball team improved to 7-3 on the season after picking up an 82-72 win over Virginia Western
Community College on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the fifth straight for SVCC in the New Year.
SVCC came out firing in the contest as four consecutive buckets by Jack Browne gave the local team a 15-5 lead at the 14:05 mark of the first half.
A trey by Eric Dubose and a lay-up by Eric Wulff at the 3:12 mark gave SVCC a 37-22 lead.
Virginia Western made a run right before the half to close the gap to 42-31 at the halftime break.
SVCC pulled away in the second half as a lay-up by A. J. Fowlkes and a trey by Browne gave the local team a 71-52 lead with 5:58 left to play.
Virginia Western refused to quit however and went on a 14-3 run to close to 74-66 with 1:30 left to play.
Browne hit 8 of 8 from the charity stripe over the last minute to seal the win.
Browne led all scorers with 29 points while Dubose scored 12 and Wulff, Fowlkes and Michael Thornton added nine points apiece.

Showcase Game on Sunday
SVCC will play host to Heat Academy, one of the top prep basketball teams in the country, on Sunday for a 1:30 p.m. game at Brunswick High School in Lawrenceville.
The Heat Academy have seven players on their squad that have been offered NCAA Division I basketball scholarships for next season as well as two of the top juniors in the region.
Admission to the game is only $2.00.
