Backflow Prevention Training By SVCC in South Hill

backflow deviceSouthside Virginia Community College will be hosting Backflow Prevention training at Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center in South Hill during the week of November 7, 2016.  This credentialed training is vital for technicians involved with water supply in rural and municipal areas. 

This class is Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) approved for all contractors who install, maintain, extend or alter water supply, liquid waste, sewage, and storm water systems. The instructor for this course is VA DPOR approved to provide individual training for Backflow Prevention Device installation incidental to Highway/Heavy, Landscape Irrigation and Fire Sprinkler contracting jobs.

Training options include 4 hour installation certification, 16 hour backflow prevention device certification, and 40 hour backflow prevention device certification:

4 HR Installation Class Certification: In accordance with 18 VAC 50-22-20 and 18 VAC 50-22-30, the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) requires irrigation contractors (ISC), heavy highway (H/H) contractors and fire sprinkler contractors (SPC) to attend a class approved by the Board on backflow prevention assemblies (BPA’s) installation before they are allowed to install BPA’s.

16 HR Backflow Prevention Device Certification: Course provides 16 hours of classroom and wet lab instruction designed to meet Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation (DPOR) training requirements for workers with at least 7 years of experience in plumbing and related mechanical areas.

40 HR Backflow Prevention Device Certification: BPDC includes 40 hours of classroom and wet lab instruction designed to meet training requirements for workers with 4-6 years of experience in plumbing and related mechanical areas.

Certification training is scheduled as follows:

  • 4 Hour Friday, November 11 - 1PM—5PM;  $150*
  • 16 Hour Monday, November 7 and Tuesday, November 8 - 8AM—5 PM;  $600*
  •  40 Hour Monday through Friday, November 7 to November 11 - 8AM—5PM;  $1,200*

*Tuition assistance is pending through Workforce Credential Grant.
