Michael Luongo, originally from Freehold, New Jersey, was enrolled in Southside Virginia Community College's Associate of Arts and Science in General Studies in preparation for transfer to a four-year university.
After attending SVCC, Michael transferred to West Virginia University and earned his Bachelor's degree in Social Work. His goal is to pursue a Master's degree in the same field.
Michael is employed with Prince Edward County Department of Social Services as a Self-Sufficiency Specialist and SNAP E&T Coordinator.
Michael feels that he would not be where he is today without the support and guidance from teachers and staff at SVCC. "I learned how to study, manage time, and format papers at a high level through courses offered at SVCC. I tell friends and family the most challenging course I was enrolled in was not a course at West Virginia University where I had to write a twenty-page paper at the end of a term, it was my biology class with Dr. Stinson at a small community college located in southern Virginia...I loved the challenge so much, I took two more of his classes."
