Alumni Spotlight: LeTrell Brown

SVCC Alumni Spotlight
LeTrell Brown was born and raised in the Emporia/Greensville area.  She graduated from Greensville County High School and for many reasons attended SVCC.  According to LeTrell, SVCC offered affordable tuition, had several locations, offered convenient and flexible class times; and she was not ready to leave home nor her family.  She graduated from SVCC and all of her classes transferred to Virginia State University where she graduated in December of 2004.

Ms. BrownUpon graduation from Virginia State, she was employed as a Corrective Reading Instructor at E. W. Wyatt Middle School.  She was offered her first teaching job in the summer of 2005 as a science teacher at Belfield Elementary School.  After serving in this position for several years, she became a fifth grade math teacher.

In 2007-08, LeTrell was voted Teacher of the Year in Greensville County, representing Belfield Elementary School.   For the 2013-14 school year, she was nominated once again to represent Belfield as Teacher of the Year.  Even though she did not hold the county-wide title that year, she felt it was an honor and privilege just to be nominated.

SVCC provided LeTrell Brown the opportunity to pursue her dream career of being a teacher!
