SVCC Alumni Spotlight

Ms RamirezJasmine Ramirez says she has always been a grandpa's girl....and she is following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Henry Ramirez. Jasmine, a recent graduate from SVCC's Truck Driver Training School, is shown here with her grandfather, who had a 20-year career as a truck driver for Dave's Lumber in New York.

Jasmine grew up in Vernon Hill and graduated from Halifax County High School. Her grandfather played a big role in her dream to become a truck driver and her dream is about to come true! Soon, she heads to Nashville, Tennessee, to begin orientation with Western Express, Inc., which began as a small family run business established in 1991. It continues to be a private company, but has grown into a successful large-tier trucking carrier with 2,450 power units and 6,500 trailers.

With her goal of being an over the road flat-bed driver, Jasmine is launching her career in an industry that is a vital part of our economy....67% of all goods move by truck!
