From Emporia, VA and both Greensville County High School graduates, mother and daughter Felicia and Davida Jackson became Southside Virginia Community College graduates on the same day in 2016. Both mom and daughter earned Associates of Arts and Sciences, mom Felicia's in Human Services and daughter Davida's in General Studies.
Davida transferred to Virginia State University as a junior majoring in Psychology. Felicia, a full-time Correction Officer Senior at Greensville Correctional Center and mother of three daughters, also plans to earn a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
"Thanks to SVCC's Dual Enrollment Program, my transition and experiences at VSU have been wonderful. The program equipped me to be academically and mentally prepared to handle the course work and daily schedules. With junior status, this also means I could possibly complete my studies a semester earlier. I am so excited to see what the future holds for me. Thank you SVCC!"says Davida.
Felicia also thanks SVCC, "As a full-time mother of three beautiful young ladies and employee I can truly say that the faculty and staff gave me much support and encouragement to continue pursuing my degree. SVCC provided me with the foundation to accomplish one of my long time goals and has prepared me for the next step in furthering my education at an accredited four-year institution. Graduation 2016 was extra special for me because my younger children witnessed their mother and oldest sister share the stage as we both received our degrees. Being the first generation graduate of my immediate family, I am so very proud of this accomplishment."
