Christopher Nelson graduated with honors from Southside Virginia Community College on Saturday, May 16, 2015! In the fall, he will enter The College of William and Mary, majoring in Biology with a minor in Psychology. He intends to continue on to medical school with the goal of specializing in dermatology.
Chris transferred to Southside from a larger institution where, according to him, there were an infinite amount of choices and classes, but no room for personal connections with faculty. At Southside he felt at home, with faculty and staff interested in him and his journey, who assisted him to make the most out of his time on campus.
As a part of the SVCC Honors Program, Chris has been challenged to make the most of his educational opportunities. In addition, he has been an active participant in campus and community activities. While at SVCC he served as Vice-President of John H. Daniel Campus Phi Theta Kappa and represented the college at the Virginias Collegiate Honors Council. Chris is a lay reader at his church and actively volunteers in his neighborhood, tending community gardens and providing handyman assistance. This summer he will be volunteering for the Vets on A Roll project. He and his family live in the Clarksville area.
