SVCC Recognized As A Great College To Work For

The Chronicle of Higher Education’s “2015 Great Colleges to Work For,” has again chosen Southside Virginia Community College for inclusion. In its eighth year The Chronicle’s Great Colleges survey compiled responses from more than 44,000 people at 281 institutions (185 four-year and 96 two-year colleges). The survey was sent to over 114,000 faculty and staff across the country with an overall response rate of 39 percent.
SVCC was also recognized on the Honor Roll in eight categories: collaborative governance; confidence in senior leadership; facilities, workspace and security; job satisfaction; professional/career development programs; respect and appreciation; supervisor/department chair relationships; and work/life balance. These colleges are the best of the best. Those that make the Honor Roll are cited most often across all recognition categories, and grouped by enrollment size. (Small institutions have 2,999 or fewer students, medium ones have 3,000 to 9,999, and large ones have 10,000 or more. Size categories were determined by total enrollment, while enrollment figures are full-time-equivalent counts from Education Department data.)
SVCC was one of two community colleges in Virginia recognized on the Honor Roll. The other college is Lord Fairfax Community College
Dr. Al Roberts, President, said, “At its core, Southside Virginia Community College is made up of bright, caring individuals. We have an engaged team of dedicated faculty and determined staff whose focus is our students' success. Our students' success is our success; their failures are our failures. The fact that our employees share that commitment makes Southside feel like a family. SVCC employees don't think they make a difference in students' lives, they know it. That's what sets us apart.”
SVCC was established in 1970 as a part of the Virginia Community College System. The college had more than 1,200 graduates receive a degree, diploma or certificate in May of 2015.
