Introduction to Drones

This is a Two day course. Classes will meet over a weekend from 6pm- 9pm on Friday and 10 am- 2pm on Saturday.

Are you curious about drones? You hear about themoften today. They come in all shapes and sizes. Do youfind it a bit complicated? Do you need help to learnto safely operate small recreational drones? They arefun and useful devices; however, it can be complicatedat first with regulations and deciding how to choose adrone. This course is for the absolute beginner or the intermediate recreational drone operator. This coursewill cover FAA rules and regulations as well as the aspectsof operating a recreational drone. This two‐day coursewill include both classroom and hands‐on flying! You willbecome familiar with one of the most popular technologies today.

 

Course material:
Participants will be required to bringtheir own or purchase a small drone that costs approximately $30.00 ‐ $40.00. For more information, pleasecontact Mark Daniel (434) 736‐2088 or Zachary McKinney(434) 736 ‐2009 regarding drone purchase and questionsabout the course.

Taste of Brunswick Festival

The 20th annual Taste of Brunswick Festival provides a day full of entertainment for the entire family. There are train rides, bouncy games, a petting zoo, pony rides, a corn box and more for the children and a variety of singers for the music lovers, Civil War re-enactors, stagecoach rides, a large car show, antique tractors. There are many vendors and lots of food. Together, our stewmasters prepare about 4,200 quarts of Brunswick stew each year. The stews are judged blindly, and four teams walk away with trophies and prize money. Admission and parking are free.

The non ‐credit seminar is offered at a reduced rate and is open to anyone interested in developing skills in securing government and private foundation grants. Besides grant seeking advice and proposal writing techniques and skills, the workshop will teach you the tough questions to ask that will help you to create programs that get funded, stay funded, and are aligned with your mission. The course is suitable for both novice and experienced grant seekers. It covers strategies for finding grant opportunities, how to get your proposal past the first read, how to research foundations and corporations that engage in philanthropy, and many other topics often never considered by individuals seeking grants. The seminar will be led by Dr. Charles Stallard, President of the Southern Virginia Botanical Gardens, Inc.Dr. Stallard is a former Assistant Dean of Research at Old Dominion University and an accomplished author who has published more than 150 research journal articles as well as three books. Lunch will be on your own each day.

The WorkKeys National CRC is a portable credential designed to provide evidence that an individual is ready for work with respect to fundamental standards or workforce literacy. Endorsed by the Governor of Virginia, the NCRC can distinguish and certify your skills in the job market and proves to an employer that you possess what it takes to be successful. The NCRC is a clear standard tool to assess the competencies of an individual in the workplace skill areas of: Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information. Pre-registration is required.
