ITE 115 Challenge Exam - Christanna Campus

The first ITE 115 challenge exam for fall semester 2015 will be given on Monday, August 24th, from 2 pm - 4:30 p.m. in Lab B-45.

Other Info:

  • Microsoft certification in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2010 or 2013 will be accepted for respective test sections.  Copy of certification required.
  • The SAM 2013 Testout Code Access Key must be purchased prior to reporting for the exam.  It may be purchased from the college bookstore or online at the Cengage Store.
  • Students must be program-placed at Southside Virginia Community College to receive credit by exam for ITE 115.  This testout is not available to itinerant students or high school students.  Dual-enrollment high school students requesting to take the testout exam must have approval of the Coordinator of Dual Enrollment. 
  • No grade is assigned for this course on the transcript.  Students receive 3 credits for successful completion of the testout exam.  Retakes are not allowed.  This is a one-time challenge exam. Baseball Tryouts

Southside Virginia Community College's baseball team is having tryouts starting on August 11th from 3-5pm on the baseball field located on the John H. Daniel Campus in Keysville. The tryouts will continue on August 13th at the same time and location. Games will begin in the Fall. To be eligible to participate on the team, students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at SVCC for the Fall semester which starts on August 20th.

The 2015 Summer Camp Program at the Lake County Advanced Knowledge Center features a wide variety of programs that are both educational and fun.

If you could go camping anywhere in the world, where would it be? You can! Just bring a back pack, sleeping bag, and a love of reading and settle in at Camp Read-A-Lot. Students will explore exciting places and adventures through crafts, storytelling, art, and song.

Computer Game Creation

Students will use the Game Maker’s Apprentice software to design and create their own game. The game will be a platform game created so that it can be played on any Windows computer.

3-D Modeling **NEW   June 8-12                  9-15 yrs.            $70           9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.     
Bring your designs to life with this exciting STEM summer camp. Students will use engineering tools - Auto Desk Inventor and 3D Printing. Students will be encouraged to discover their inner engineer.

Safety With McGruff      June 12                       5-8 yrs.            FREE       9:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m.
Students will receive tips on safety from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Students will be visited by McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog and will be given
valuable information on maintaining personal safety. This camp is offered free through the  Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and preregistration is required.

Intermediate Volleyball  June 15-19              10-13 yrs            $70           2:30 p.m.—4:30 p.m.      
This class is for students who currently play volleyball, have taken beginner classes, etc. Students need to wear shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. Students will need to bring water bottles to class each day.  **This class will be taught in the gymnasium at First Christian School in South Hill.

Beginning Volleyball      June 15-19           8-12 yrs            $70          12:00 p.m.—2:00 p.m.     
Students will learn the basics of volleyball-pass, set, hit, and serve. Students need to wear shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. Students will need to bring water bottles to class each day.  **This class will be taught in the gymnasium at First Christian School in South Hill.

Lego Robotics                  June 15-19         7-11 yrs.             $70            9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.

Using LEGO Mindstorm Robotic Technology, students will increase their creativity by using problem solving skills and designing, building, and programming Lego Mindstorm Robots.  **Two camps are offered due to popularity and younger kids are encouraged to enroll in June offering.

Beginning Tennis            June 22-26           7-13 yrs            $70          9:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m.      
Bring your tennis racket and learn the proper techniques for playing tennis! Students will learn how to serve the ball as well as proper techniques for hitting the ball so that  a continuous game of tennis can be played. Students need to bring water bottles to camp each day. The camp is located at the South Hill tennis courts beside Centennial Park.

Gaming Buddy                June 24                  5-7 yrs              $15          9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.     
These young gamers will be able to modify a game using their own picture inserted in the game as one of the characters. Students will play the game as themselves using Game  Maker’s Apprentice software. Please note that students will not receive a game from this camp —they  will create characters using their pictures and play using online gaming technology at the center.

Magic Chemist                June 30                 8-13 yrs.            $15          9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. 
So you’re asking, what is CHEMISTRY? Chemistry is the study of MATTER and the changes that take place with that matter. Come be a magic chemist and investigate changes in matter that seem like magic; however they are chemical reactions. As a magic chemist you will create your own slime,discover rainbow milk, and other exciting chemical reactions.

What’s My DNA?            July 6                    8-13 yrs.            $15          9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.      
Students will learn the science of genetics and discover what makes up their DNA through hands on learning activities. Students will create their own personalized “DNA” strand showing the components included in their DNA. Students will be actively engaged in hands on experiments in a state of the art Biology Lab.

Cupcake Wars! **NEW     July 7                  8-13 yrs.            $15          9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.   
Want to learn how to decorate cakes? No experience required! Students will learn simple techniques and designs to start them on a journey to a cake decorating hobby! And no cake decorating class would be complete without a decorated cake that students design to take home to share with the family!**In addition to tuition that is due to SVCC by May 22, a $5 supply fee payable to Candace Adcock is due on the day of the class to cover the cost of the cake.

Craft Savvy **NEW      July 27-31           8-13 yrs.            $70          9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.
Students will explore the art of yarn basket making, creating paper mache, and many other fun and exciting projects.  Students need to bring their creative energy and let the ideas and crafts begin! **Each participant will need to bring a skein of yarn to class and a $5 supply fee is payable to Emily Wise on the first day of the camp. (This is an additional cost to the tuition paid to SVCC.)

Math Palooza**NEW     Aug. 3-5              8-10 yrs.            $45          9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.  
Let's break the cycle and make MATH FUN!  Come explore exciting ways to learn multiplications facts with speed and accuracy. Have fun playing math games while you improve your knowledge of basic math skills.  You even get to make and take your very own math game.  Are you ready to have fun with math?

Write On!**NEW
(A Creative Writing Adventure)
                                Aug. 3-7             11-17 yrs.           $70          9:00 a.m. —12:00 p.m.  
Tired of writing the same old boring paragraph or story the same old way. Participants will be exposed to writing various genres such as poetry, graphic novel/comic strip writing, journaling, blogging and many more. Each day students will explore new ways to express their own thoughts and ideas through creative writing. Participants will learn how to hone their craft by peer editing, critiquing, and self editing through multiple drafts. At the end of the week the participants will host a "Writing Expo" where they can share their pieces of writing with their peers and parents.

Be Safe in the Water & The Woods
                               Aug. 7                  6-12 yrs.          FREE       9:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m.
Students will learn water safety tips as well as information pertaining to nature and animals from the Rangers from Buggs Island Lake. Students will learn about snakes and also play an environmental game. **Preregistration is required.
