Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
ACG is a federal need based merit grant for high school graduates, after 2005, who have an advanced diploma or have completed a rigorous academic program and are Pell grant eligible. ACG does not have to be repaid. Amounts not utilized for tuition and fees may be used to purchase books. Any remaining amounts will be refunded to the student. Students must be a Federal Pell Grant recipient, enrolled in a 2-year degree or certificate program to be eligible for the ACG. Virginia Commonwealth Grant (COMA)
COMA funding is provided solely by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Students receiving COMA must reside in Virginia, show financial need by means of needs analysis, and be enrolled on at least a half-time basis (at least 6 credits). Individual awards vary dependent upon need and funding level. This grant covers tuition and fees only. This grant does not have to be repaid. [MORE]
College Scholarship Assistance Program (CSAP)
The CSAP grant is a state grant awarded to Virginia residents on the basis of need and enrollment status (minimum of 6 credits per term). This grant covers tuition, fees, and books. It does not have to be repaid. [MORE]
Federal Work Study (FWS)
The FWS program allows students to earn grant money, in the form of a paycheck, while performing job related duties within the college. It is intended to be used to offset the cost of tuition and fees. It does NOT get applied to the student account, but is disbursed to the student in the form of a check, on a bi-weekly basis, based on the number of hours worked. Higher Education Teacher Assistance Program (HETAP)
HETAP is a grant given to Students in the Teacher Education Program. HETAP does not have to be repaid. This grant covers tuition, fees, and books. Students must be registered full time, twelve or more credits, to be eligible for this grant. [MORE]
Federal Pell Grant (PELL)
Initial Federal Pell Grant amounts are based on a projected full-time enrollment and will be reduced accordingly based on your actual enrollment at the end of the add/drop period, if the student is not full-time. In most cases, the award is prorated to 75% of the amount shown if you are three-quarter time (9-11 credits), 50% if you are half-time (6-8 credits), and 25% if you are less than half-time (1-5 credits). This proration does not apply to all award amounts, particularly lower award amounts. You may only receive the Federal Pell Grant at one institution per semester. Students may apply for this federally-funded program by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The PELL grant does not have to be repaid. Part-time Tuition Assistance Program (PTAP)
This grant covers tuition and select fees only (it does not pay service or student fees). If the student’s total tuition and fees are LESS than the award shown, your actual award will be the lesser amount. You must be registered for one to eight credit hours to be eligible for PTAP. This grant does not have to be repaid.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
SEOG is a federal grant that does not have to be repaid. Amounts not used for tuition and fees may be used to purchase books. Any remaining amounts will be refunded to the student. [MORE]
VCCS Grant (VCCS)
The VCCS grant has been created to help offset cost of books for SVCC students. It only covers books. The VCCS grant is a grant that does not have to be repaid.
Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP)
Students receiving VGAP must meet requirements similar to COMA recipients. However, students must have exceptional financial need and maintain full-time enrollment (12 or more credits) as a dependent student. Awards vary and can be used for tuition, fees and books. New students must have at least a 2.5 GPA from high school (renewal students must maintain a 2.0 G.P.A.) and continuous full-time enrollment (summer terms are excluded). Foundation Scholarships
Foundation Scholarships are originally awarded by the SVCC Foundation Office. The Financial Aid office adds this award to your aid package, which may cause adjustments to other aid.
VMSDEP
The Virginia Military Survival Dependents Education Program (VMSDEP) is a state funded grant that is offered to spouses and dependents of veterans ruled 90% disabled by the Veteran Administration. This grant may cover tuition, fees, and books. Awards are based on available funding. The application for this grant can be obtained from the veteran affairs officer in the financial aid department. |
