Dual Enrollment
2007-2008 School Year
Southside Virginia Community College had an excellent year assisting more high school students than ever earn college credit prior to graduating from high school.
In the fall semester of 2007 dual enrollment students took 14,010 college credit hours.
In the spring semester of 2008 dual enrollment students took 12,487 college credit hours.
Many of the school divisions and private schools continue to add additional dual enrollment opportunities for students. The following school divisions have implemented all classes necessary for students to earn an Associate of Arts and Science degree by the time the students graduate from high school.
- Charlotte County
- Cumberland County
- Halifax County
- Nottoway County
Our 2008 graduating class included the largest number of dual enrollment graduates in SVCC’s history. Sixty students from seven different high schools earned degrees or certificates in the following areas.
- Associate of Arts and Science – General Studies
- Associate of Arts and Science – Science
- Cosmetology and Barbering
- Fire Science Technology
- Automotive Technology
- General Education Certificate
New dual enrollment opportunities slated to begin in the fall semester of 2008 include the following.
- Culinary Arts
- Motorcycle Technician Program
- Expansion of Emergency Medical Services and Fire Science Technology
- Expansion of Certified Nurse Aide Program
- Expansion of Automotive Technology Program
- Drafting and Design courses at the Amelia-Nottoway Vocational Center
- Additional transfer courses such as calculus, college chemistry and humanities
Additional dual enrollment opportunities slated to begin in the fall semester of 2009 include the following.
- Diesel Technician Program
- CISCO Networking Certification
- Additional Transfer Courses
