2010 Championship Team

The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team won the VCCS state tournament with a 119-104 win over Tidewater CC in Roanoke. STATE CHAMPIONS - 2008-2009 SEASON



The Southside Virginia Community College men’s intercollegiate basketball team won the VCCS state championship with a 91-69 win over Northern Virginia CC on Sunday afternoon at Bethel High School in Hampton. History

The Southside Virginia Community College Force basketball team from the John H. Daniel Campus joined the Virginia Community College System club league during the 2003-04 season and earned a very respectable fourth place finish in the Virginia Community College State Club Basketball Tournament. The team won three straight VCCS division titles from 2006-2008 and captured the VCCS state championship titles in 2009 and 2010. The Force also won the NIRSA Mid-Atlantic Regional title at the University of Virginia in 2007 and finished as runner-up in the ACIS National Championships in 2010..

Dennis Smith, a Workforce Development Director, on the John H. Daniel Campus, coaches the Force. Smith is a longtime youth basketball coach in Southside, Virginia and led the Southside Virginia Shooting Stars 16u team to a USBA National Championship in Myrtle Beach, SC in June, 2006.

To be eligible to participate in athletics within the VCCS, students must be enrolled in at least six credits at the college and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.
